Dr Christopher Mackmurdo
Dr Christopher Mackmurdo is co-founder of Legatus and a strategic intelligence specialist. He is a long-standing champion of intelligence tradecraft that combines expert human judgement with structured methodology, machine-learning and advanced analytics, in support of strategic decision-making and planning. As former head of counter-terrorism and national security research at the British Foreign Office, Christopher spent a decade assessing global terrorism risks to the UK, developing risk-mitigation strategies across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and supporting the work of the National Security Council, the Joint Intelligence Committee and COBR. He obtained his PhD on strategic intelligence from the London School of Economics, and has held fellowships at the University of Cambridge and King’s College, London.
Dr Alia Brahimi
Dr Alia Brahimi is co-founder of Legatus and a leading expert on security and political trends in the Middle East and North Africa. She advises decision-makers at the highest levels in governments and corporations, and has served as an expert witness to the UK Defence Select Committee. Alia has held several academic positions at Oxford University and the London School of Economics. She is the author of Jihad and Just War in the War on Terror (OUP, 2010) as well as a number of policy briefs and articles on jihadist ideology and strategy, Libya, Iraq and Syria. Alia is regularly quoted by the international press, and appears as a commentator on TV and radio. Having attended Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, Alia completed her MPhil, DPhil (PhD) and postdoctoral research in International Relations at Oxford University.
