Dr Alia Brahimi
Dr Alia Brahimi is a leading expert on security and political trends in the Middle East and North Africa. She has advised decision-makers in governments and global corporations, and has served as an expert witness to the UK Defence Select Committee. Alia held several academic positions at Oxford University and the London School of Economics. She is the author of Jihad and Just War in the War on Terror (OUP, 2010) as well as a number of policy briefs and articles on jihadist ideology and strategy, Libya, Iraq and Syria. Alia is regularly quoted by the international press, and appears as a commentator on TV and radio. She completed her MPhil, DPhil (PhD) and postdoctoral research in International Relations at Oxford University.
Dr Christopher Mackmurdo
Dr Christopher Mackmurdo is former head of national security research at the UK Foreign Office, and served as Whitehall’s principal strategic analyst for counter-terrorism from 2005 to 2014. During his government career, Christopher was responsible for assessing global terrorism risks to the UK and helping to shape risk-mitigation strategies across the Middle East, Africa and Asia. He worked closely with the National Security Council, the Joint Intelligence Committee, COBR and intelligence allies on international strategy, intelligence assessments and crisis response. Christopher obtained his PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics, and has held fellowships at the University of Cambridge and King’s College, London.
